What's So Funny About Unemployment?

A funny little unemployment blog for your (un) enjoyment

How to help others

These ideas for helping and encouraging unemployed people are from the pamphlet “When Someone Is Unemployed” by Our Sunday Visitor Inc.:

  • Call frequently. Assure the person that there is no stigma to losing a job — especially in this tough economy.
  • Offer to be a sounding board if the person needs to talk.
  • Circulate their resume to your network of friends.
  • Treat them to lunch, dinner, a movie, or a sporting event.
  • Invite the person to join you in an exercise routine.
  • Keep them in your prayers.

In my experience, I’ve had people frequently treat me to meals and movies, pray for me, and give me job leads these past six months. It’s all been very much appreciated.

So if you know someone who’s unemployed, do these things (or something else nice) for them. They’ll thank you.
