Quote of the Day

It’s Friday night and I’m coming to you from on the road again. This time I’m visiting my stepmother before our family reunion tomorrow afternoon. I made it here through rainy weather, tire trouble, and road closures. So now, it’s finally time for the Quote of the Day:

“Any degree of unemployment worries me.” — Gerhard Schroder.

See you again soon, same site, same topic. Unless I win all or part of tonight’s Mega Millions drawing. Then I’ll start a “What’s So Funny About Winning the Lottery?” site. 🙂

What I’ve been doing lately

It’s time (past time, really) I updated you on what I’ve been doing lately in my own personal unemployment land.

  • As I mentioned before, I’ve had a couple of first job interviews in the past week and a half. Now I’m waiting to see if I get second interviews (fingers crossed).
  • Earlier this week, I also interviewed for a part-time job at a department store. I should know by this afternoon whether or not I got it.
  • This morning at 10 a.m. I went to Ticketmaster.com and splurged on Springsteen tickets for Nov. 13 at The Palace. Although for me, seeing Bruce and the E Street Band in concert is more of an essential rather than a splurge.
  • Also, I read the book “Julie & Julia,” which was funny and inspiring. Still want to see the movie.

Happy Friday, everyone. Here we go before my laptop battery dies: “A man willing to work, and unable to find work, is perhaps the saddest sight that fortune’s inequality exhibits under this sun.” — Thomas Carlyle

It wouldn’t be Friday at WSFAU without a Quote of the Day, wouldn’t it?

Tonight’s search for a quote on jobless yielded the following words by Peter Passell:

Six percent unemployment only looks good from the vantage point of the other 94 percent.

Celebrating in the streets ….

One of the interviews I mentioned in my last post was this afternoon in Ann Arbor.

And when I got back home tonight, word had mysteriously spread amongst the people that my interview had gone well. There were classic cars in the streets, people walking along the streets, streets closed for block parties.

Yes, people were celebrating in the streets, all right.

Oh, all right, they were celebrating this.

Some good news

Just as I was spending another afternoon searching the Internet for jobs for which I’m overqualified (and for which I’d be underpaid), I found out two employers want to interview me. For jobs for which I’m qualified (and for which I’d be decently paid).

So now I’m happy.  🙂

Never mind that I now have to call MARVIN.

Today’s unemployment words of wisdom are from Edward Langley:

“What this country needs is more unemployed politicians.”
