Funny resume bloopers

While checking my Twitter account this afternoon, I found the following link to a page of resume bloopers: Funny2.

Take a good look at them and you won’t have to wonder if any of these people are still unemployed. 😉

It’s our blogiversary!

leave a comment »

One year ago tonight, in the wee small hours of the morning, WSFAU was born.

Yes, it’s our blogiversary. A little celebration is in order.

We even feel like singing (and trust us, we don’t sing that well or that often):

As the vice president might say, this blogiversary is a big bleeping deal.

Well, it’s a big deal to me, anyway.  😉

It’s been quite a year. I’ve gone from here to Wisconsin in search of a job, chronicled my affairs with MARVIN, and searched the Internet far and wide for unemployment news for you. I even received (and cherished) a few comments along the way.

I had hoped I wouldn’t be blogging about unemployment for this long; that I’d be gainfully employed full-time by now. However, I’ll keep on writing here for as long as I’m unemployed.

Just the other day, someone told me something I already knew all along: I’ll have to change the name of this blog when I’m finally employed. Actually, I look forward to creating another blog for myself when I get a job.

Thanks, readers, fans, and Facebook fans for your encouragement and for being there.

Operation ABLE job fair tomorrow

leave a comment »

Before I forget and go off to Toastmasters tonight, I wanted to tell all of you over-40 job seekers out there that there’s a job fair tomorrow just for us.

It’s the Operation ABLE of Michigan 24th Annual Job Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 24 at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center (near Northland Mall) in Southfield.

So gather your resumes, brush off your suit, practice your 30-second speech, and I may well see you there.

Meijer job fair this week

leave a comment »

I just watched a Fox 2 news story on the big Meijer job fair for the company’s soon-to-open store in Rochester Hills.

In case you’ve been living under a rock since this weekend, the discount store is planning to hire about 200 for a new store opening this spring. They’re having a job fair at the new store starting today:

Meijer Hosting 4-day Job Fair for New Hires.

Of course, the story already showed a line well out the store door — and Meijer stores aren’t small.

Even though the new Meijer isn’t terribly close to my house (I live near two other Meijers and they plan to build another store near me), I filled out the online application for the new store.  Sometime this week I’ll wait in that line and interview. What can I say; I need a job and I have some retail experience.

It’s been a week

leave a comment »

It’s Friday, and it’s been a week.

First of all, I was in a car accident on Monday morning. I was rear-ended while stopped at a freeway exit. Of course, the other car was a Toyota. Luckily, my car and I are more or less okay. Even though my brother joked that I should get a neck brace and a lawyer.

On Tuesday, I substituted for part of the day, for a high school dance teacher who was taking most of her class on a field trip. I simply had to watch the remaining students.

Wednesday morning, I went to the first meeting of a new networking group sponsored by my local Michigan Works career center.

Last night, I went to a Toastmasters speaking competition.

And in between it all, I’ve spent a lot of time filling out and sending out job applications.  I even found a few jobs on Monster.com.

So now I’m sitting here thinking about what I need to do next.

I know I’ve made a few of these:

I’ve been late, I’ve been early, and I’ve failed to sell myself.
