The President’s coming to town Tuesday

The White House did say the town hall meeting at Macomb Community College is to focus on “economic issues,” but wasn’t specific. No details yet on when and how to go to the meeting, either.

Hopefully during his visit, Mr. Obama will address Michigan’s high unemployment rate.

Back to school

In unemployment news, the president is asking the states to help the unemployed return to school for job training without having to give up their unemployment benefits.

Here’s something I didn’t really know: If you’re unemployed and you enroll in school, you currently lose your rights to unemployment insurance. So how do they expect you to pay tuition to train for a new job? Not to mention paying your other expenses. Going back to school as an adult can be expensive. I did it years ago; I know.

In related news, there’s also a new government web site with information on Pell Grants and other financial aid for the unemployed.
