I did something kind of stupid (but smart, too)
As my father would say, I did something kind of stupid on Saturday.
As I hinted I would do in my last post, I went to my local Apple Store Saturday afternoon to look at the new iPad. However, in between the time I made my last post and the time I left for the store, my laptop caught another virus. The second since December. 😦
As I may have said here before, that old laptop isn’t long for this world. I’ve owned and used it for almost five and a half years — forever in computing terms. It has a small, nearly full hard drive. It takes about five minutes to boot up (no, I’m not exaggerating). Its battery hardly lasts more than 30 minutes. I’m surprised it doesn’t crash more often than it does. It’s in sad, sad shape.
So I went to the Apple Store to see if the brand new iPad could supplement my poor old PC laptop.
My opinion of the iPad: It’s very nice to hold, very responsive to the touch. It has a beautiful full-color screen. It’ll be great for reading books, web surfing, video, and gaming. The friendly product specialist told me there’s even a Word Press iPad ap for bloggers. (Cool!)
But  after a few minutes of playing with the new device, I decided I really still needed a full-fledged computer with a real keyboard and word processing software.
So I broke my bank account and bought a MacBook.
The “stupid” part of that is, of course, I could hardly afford to buy a new computer.
However, I need a reliable computer for some upcoming freelance work, for my continuing job hunt, for email and Internet searching — and, of course, for this blog. 😉
With my new MacBook, I have a huge hard drive, lots of memory, a beautiful screen, long battery life, some very cool creative software (like Garage Band and iPhoto), a stable and easy to use operating system, and Apple’s tech support and training.
And they tell me Macs don’t get viruses (fingers crossed).
I’m very happy with my new computer.
I had to call AT&T to reset the DSL modem password for my Internet service, however. That’s another story. I don’t have Internet service at home right now; I’m typing this at the library.
To make a long story short: When an AT&T technician tells you to press “reset” on your modem (or your smartphone), think twice. It may just break your device. 😦
